founded by AIWC over the years now function
as autonomous apex bodies in their respective
fields, for example the All India Women's
Education Fund Association which established
India's first college of home science Lady Irwin
College, New Delhi (established in 1932, now
an institution of higher education offering
graduates and post-graduate courses).
Other notable institutions are the Family
Planning Centre (estd. In 1937, now the
family Planning Association of India), Save
the Children Committee (estd. In 1943, now
the Indian Council for Child Welfare) Cancer
Research Institute (estd. In 1952 now the
Cancer Institute, Chennai) The Amrit Kaur
Bal Vihar for Mentally Retarded Children,
New Delhi (Estd. In 1964 now run by Delhi Society
for the Welfare of Mentally Retarded Children
founded in 1970.
